Introducing Based Jam

Creating Games Outside the Mainstream

What is a Based Jam?

Game jams are video game development competitions that challenge individuals or teams to finish games in a limited time. Over the past decade these contests have not only produced some awesome games, but also fostered strong communities. Unfortunately in past years these spaces have taken efforts to enforce strict ideological beliefs that exclude many creatives. Based Jam is aims to counteract this by creating a space for game devs outside mainstream political norms, especially for those who lean right.

About the Current Jam.

The current contest running just started on September 30th and will run through mid-October. The theme is S.P.Q.R aka Rome. Themes are typical in game jams and are part of the judging process. Participants can work solo or in teams using any game engine or tools. Submissions are judged on creativity, gameplay, and adherence to the theme. The community is open to all experience levels, and help is offered at their communities found at their website. In addition to the regulars guest judges like AndyPants Gaming and Ian Crossland will be rating the best submissions at the end of the month.

If you'd like to contribute or just check out the games that are submitted you can do so here. Teams are still forming and they're looking for all sorts of talents in addition to programming. I hope to see you all there!
