Comedy & Horror in The Pineys

In South Jersey, they hunt a special kind of `deer`

Set in the Pine Barrens and based on South Jersey folklore and history, The Pineys is a comedy/horror novella series about a family of hunters that hunt the kin of the Jersey Devil.

According to the legend, Mother Leeds gave birth to the Jersey Devil in the 1730's and it's been haunting the Pine Barrens ever since. The truth is, Mother Leeds was a witch and opened the portals to Hell, flooding the Pines with hundreds of devils. This did not go unnoticed in the nearby village of Abe's Hat, New Jersey. The villagers there formed a secret society to hunt down the devils and send them back to Hell.

Their ancestors continue the hunt to this day.

The Galloway Hunting Lodge (established in 1733) is headquarters to the extended Galloway family that have been living in the area since that time. If you join the Lodge and learn the password, you will get access to the back bar where the hunters keep their trophies. It looks like someone went on a shooting spree in Dante's Inferno.

The hunters refer to their quarry as "deer", but these deer breathe fire, eat human flesh and practice black magic. To take out a target, it's best to use silver weapons, although holy water hurts them too. If you cut out the heart, a portal to Hell will reopen, sucking the disabled creature back to the Abyss. But make sure you cut off the head, so it can't find its way back. Also, you'll need that head if you want something to mount and so you can collect your free beer.

This is the story of four cousins brought together by destiny, cursed by their ancestors and trying to keep South Jersey from going to Hell.
